Medicare Supplement D

Medicare Supplement D Can Meet Your Prescription Drug Expenses

When we met Mr. Derek Gehl for the first time, he was a disturbed man. He had approached us seeking advice on solving his problem of meeting prescription drug costs that are not covered by the original Medicare plan. Mr. Gehl, a senior citizen, was covered under the original Medicare plan but was finding it a bit difficult to meet the expenses which he had to incur on prescription drugs.

It was then that we offered Mr. Derek Gehl an enrollment in the Medicare D plan.

"What is a Medigap supplement D plan?" asked Mr. Gehl. It is the latest addition to Medigap that has come into effect from the first day of January, 2006", we explained. "Anyone who is entitled to Medigap Part A or enrolled in Part B is eligible for enrollment in it. However, you will not receive this plan automatically since it is a volunteer program that you may choose to purchase."

"How do I enroll under a Medicare supplement D plan?" asked Mr. Gehl.

"These plans will be offered by the private companies under contract with Medigap. These policies will be referred to as Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs). A client will be required to fill out a form to enroll and on enrollment; PDP will inform Medicare about the enrollment of a new member. From the first of January, the enrollment period is simultaneous with Medicare Part B on the option of the client."

"But how it is going to benefit me?" It seemed that Mr. Derek Gehl was yet to be convinced.

"There is standard drug benefit designed by the Federal Government for regular enrollment under a Medigap supplement D plan. A low income benefit is available for those who fall below a certain level of income. If you already have a drug discount card, the respective plan will replace it."

Mr. Derek Gehl was convinced that a Medicare supplement D plan might just be the solution he was looking for. He therefore, enrolled in the program. He was generous enough to intimate us that it has been a real solution to his problem of meeting prescription drug costs not covered by original Medicare plan.
